daylist

Throughout the day, your mood changes, and so does the music you listen to. Last night might have been a windows down, thrillwave monday evening, while this moment is more of a ’90s rave rainforest late night. The point is, you’re ever-changing, and your playlists should be too.

Lead the UX Writing/Content Design efforts for daylist, a new playlist launched in September 2023. Marketed as an ultra-personalized playlist that moves with your day, it’s become a fan favorite.

Months after launching, it organically went viral on Instagram, with searches up 20,000% — making a segment on the Today Show and a New York Times article.

MVP Overview

worked with global marketing to come up with “your day in a playlist” as the playlist tagline. aligned to keep ‘daylist’ in lowercase for true gen-z likeability.

Sharing Overview

If friend A shares their daylist (screen #1) with friend B, this is what friend B would see (screen #2). We needed to design so that Friend B would know this wasn’t their own daylist and find a way to let them know they can get their own— solved with the ‘made for Frida’ and modal + CTA combo on screen #2.

Playlist Daypart Overview

Early morning, morning, afternoon, evening, night, and late night are the variations a user can get depending on when they check back throughout the day. We also decided to have copy informing the user when they’d next get an update, as well as an explainer ‘You listened to…Here’s some…’ with the option to click through on various words to get to a Niche Mix, another Spotify product.

Sharing Card Flow

Users have three options of sharecards to choose from, with the first option being the most popular. In previous versions we were running into the issue of users just screen shotting their daylist, we decided a sharecard that mimicked a screenshot would be our best chance at an actual share.

Social Messaging Sharing Card Flow

To align with marketing and make the playlist ‘gen z’ cool *finger guns*, we decided that all marketing materials external to the product would be done in lowercase, like the share text copy here.

Sharing Card Dayparts

Six sharecards to correspond to the six times the playlist changes.
